![]() First, the decal is laid out on the computer using special software that tells the vinyl cutter what to cut into the vinyl. Next, the software sends the information to the vinyl cutter. The cutter uses a very fine blade to cut the vinyl as it is fed back and forth through the cutter from a long roll. ![]() After the cutting is complete, the vinyl is then cut from the roll on the machine and taken to a table where the "weeding" and "taping" processes take place. The image above displays the most time consuming part of decal making. The scrap vinyl is carefully removed by hand leaving only the wanted decal pieces behind.
![]() The "weeding" process is seen here, where all tiny pieces must be removed with special tweezers that are able to pick up any unwanted leftovers. Above, the center of an "R" is picked out. Nobody needs that right? ![]() Here, half of this sheet has been "weeded". The second half will be "weeded" next so it can be "taped" up. ![]() Now that the "weeding" is complete, the sheets are ready to be "taped" as seen above. The transfer tapes main purpose is to hold all of the pieces together so they can all be applied at once. Who wants to put each of the pieces on one at a time? Also, this tape protects the vinyls surface from scratches as it is applied. ![]() Here are the weeded & taped up decals. We used a clear transfer tape which is difficult to see in the photo. ![]() The final decals cut individually. |
